A Long-Time User's Perspective Look at Top-Down Library |
|
TopDown Library has
proven to be an unusually powerful tool for program development within the XBase++ language. It is designed with a strong commitment to consistency, both in its approach to functionality and code development. We have saved thousands of development hours over the years simply because all of TopDown is written with a consistent and well proven architecture. If we need to adjust a new feature or function, it is always a simple task to find the appropriate code. Every function adheres to a clean and efficient format. For example, the keystroke and event handling is always designed into the function code itself. Therefore there is no need to trace errant results through multiple levels of language and add-on code. Although TopDown was originally intended as a tool to ease the transition from DOS to Windows and help get productive quickly, its real advantage lies in its intuitive approach. Unlike many other "design add-ons", TopDown doesn't hide its functionality behind layers of hard to decipher code. In fact, it has been copiously documented to encourage the developer to understand its powerful approach and use it as needed. This commitment to helping users "get the job done" continues with outstanding technical support and interaction with users. When we needed to convert and expand our award-winning public health tracking software from a text-based, DOS product to a true 32-bit, GUI system, it was TopDown in conjunction with XBase++ that made the conversion simple and easy to maintain. In my opinion, TopDown has given developers a unique tool to utilize the significant power of the XBase++ language. Carl Spence Designer and CEO Med/Track Critical Tracking Software |
