California, 2005

It had been raining on the west coast for nearly two weeks when I left for California early in January for family visits and photography in Death Valley National Park.  With mud slides, flooding and closed roads, parts of DVNP were off limits and there was some question as to whether it would even be possible to enter the park.

As it turned out, the two days scheduled in the park were the only clear days in weeks of rain, a narrow window of opportunity.  And being a weekday the park was nearly deserted, resulting in seeing only one other person during an entire day on Mesquite Dunes.

It was one of the most memorable of photo expeditions and has resulted in some fine images.
